I like them fresh…… by Lissalo.com Burnaby newborn photographer

at 4 days old, Mila is my youngest newborn so far. I’ve photographed her big sister, Mia when she was 8 days old.

Day was cloudy. Lighting wasn’t that great at their place but I had to make it work. :)

Happy Holidays from mine to yours — South Surrey/White Rock children photographer

Another year is coming to a close. All I want for Christmas is maybe not to have a reindeer sitting on my head :) Jokes aside, I hope to be a more active in my business in the new year. My kids have settled down in their new school, we have settled down in our new house. We pretty have made some new friends here.

If you are looking for a photographer, don’t hesitate to email me to ask whatever questions you need to ask. Besides having a budget for photography, the working relationship with the photographer is essential.

I bid you all a Happy Holidays and may you have a wonderful time together this Christmas sharing love, joy and laughter.

Lissa

That’s it for this year.. thank you.

Another year ends. Time flies by measuring how fast your babies grow. I can sure attest to that. It wasn’t that long ago, I was enjoying my 2nd baby and blink, she’s in Grade 1!

I always tell my moms clients this. Photograph your babies whenever you can yourself. With your own camera or cellphone.  Save some money and have your family portraits done by a professional every year if you can afford it. You won’t regret it.  Why? Because someone else will see your family different and you will be surprised how you or your babies are captured in pictures.

At least, you will be in the pictures as well. ;)

To cap off this year, here’s the baby brother of the most fun girl I featured earlier.

Precious babe with his daddy. Daddy isn’t that bad on the eyes either, hahaha!

This pic looks similar to a 3D ultrasound picture!

My new season starts in March or April 2010. I will keep you posted here.

Have a great holidays and a happy new year.

Precious!

Seldom a high energy toddler takes my attention away from the main subject that I was hired to photograph. Mom hired me to photograph her new baby brother and maybe just a few shots of big sister. But I ended with an equal amount of pictures of big sister. That’s because she has the most infectious smile. She coaxed me into getting her out of the crib and then we made a mess of  mom’s & dad’s bed.  Then,  we play in the living room and in the backyard with dad. Phew!

But as you scroll down to view her pictures, you can see that she encapsulates what a great, happy childhood every kid should go through.

Nearly forgot about this session….

I had a blast photographing this kiddo. He ate, he threw up, he pooped, he slept; everything a newborn did.

From the maternity session:

And dad is of course,  happy with having a boy.

I’d love to post more from this session but I have to cook dinner now.

Mia…

It has been a long time since I have a baby girl to photograph; well, not just a baby girl but a baby girl who doesn’t fret or cry. She was 8 days old when I photographed her in her own room which she has yet to sleep in yet. I couldn’t get any window light but then it was cloudy and gray… still is (boo!).

I can’t wait to babysit her. :)

I think she’s trying to tell me something… LOL!

My baby is growing up.

What a scare!!

I HATE, HATE updating wordpress. It scares the bejeezus out of me. More so now that in some file, I have to reroute my URL to my blog directory. To do that I have to type in codes which really, really scares me silly. Like just 5 mins ago, this whole blog didn’t come out. There were lines of warning of this and that. I don’t want to think about it now. Thank god that is over with.

It’s now mid-July and it’s all a blur to me. At times, it doesn’t seem that fast but a week just passed you by and then another week. Here’s a peek at my July calendar.

There’s some things happening everyday and on some days, several activities are scheduled each day. The only blank dates are weekend. My previous “gulp-for-air” days. Some days are just so good and enjoyable. Some days are just made of “mommy, he hit me. mommy, she wouldn’t give it to me.” On those days, I wish I could hide and maybe cry a few tears of frustration. I keep telling myself to understand the situation with the eyes and mind of a 4 year old or a 7 year old because things that is stupid to adults are actually very important to the kids. I am learning.

Being tired, I have forgotten to schedule my monthly photography session with my kids. I shot more videos of them because I was looking back at their pictures and realized there wasn’t enough videos of my kids growing up. Right now, I only have my small point & shoot to do it. I am looking to get a camcorder. Our 8 year old brick-like Sony camcorder doesn’t function like it used to be. Besides, it’s such a pain to carry it. That said, I shoved my camera at my kids this morning, trying to capture their activity.

*My son folding triangles. He didn’t have anything in mind on what to fold.

*My daughter peeking from behind the chair… and on tiptoes. Still love her piggies.

*Our dog, sitting on my.. oops his Ikea chair. He went dominant on another dog at the park this afternoon, chasing a dog which was bigger than he is. I’ve never seen him do that ever in the 9 years I have him. Usually, it’s the other way round where some big dogs do it to him. I wasn’t too worried because I’ve seen dogs going at it before but the owner of the bigger dog was a young woman who obviously was in distress seeing her dog being chased like that. I had to apologize to her and her dog gave me tons of kisses.

* The kids together.

*Individually

I am exhausted….

trying to get my kids busy each day this summer. This week, Ice-skating in the morning, swim in the afternoon. In between, I catch some breaths, take the dog out, make meals. Some days are good, some days are just plain frustrating.

Anyway, I decided to change my ad artwork in West Coast Families magazine for the coming August/September issue. It’s a small ad in the Market Place section. It’s my 3rd and last insertion order. Strangely I am glad I am done with paying for this. All my inquiries  are from word of mouth and not one from WCF. It’s a waste of money. Gah. Lesson learned. Here’s my new ad. Yes, more pics from that session coming. Just need to find the time and energy to resize and upload pictures. Stay with me. :)

Catching up with previous clients

I love catching up with all my previous clients and just can’t seem to get enough how fast the babies have grown. Just in awe of their growth.  I appreciate clients who hire me to photograph their kids and family. Even within a year, everything and everyone changes so fast.

Earlier this week, I visited E. If you can remember, she posed in front of a trailer in my previous sneak peek postings. She was supposed to be induced when her baby was overdue but thinking of all the labour work, they opted to get a C-section. Baby R was born on April 29th. I was at E’s place to deliver her maternity order and I couldn’t help but took a couple of pics of Baby R. This was not a scheduled newborn session.

I realized I haven’t put up one of my favourite maternity pics of E yet.

Now, Baby R @ 7 days old.

No food there, baby but you kissed mommy! :)

His mom wanted it all!!

And she ordered all the images I showed her in the proof gallery. Whoo-hoo!!!

Here’s baby D. He’s now coming to 4 months old but technically, he’s going to be 2 months. He was 2 months premature. He’s feisty and he doesn’t like to be disturbed when he’s sleeping. Our first session wasn’t a success because he fussed so much. In our second session, his mom called me after he has been sleeping for 20 mins and I rushed over. But alas, he lives by one rule – do not disturb me when I am sleeping!! hahahahha. But he responded to mom after a while and gave us some nice smiley shots.

His mom saw those black background baby shots I did and wanted those too. Baby D wanted nothing to do with my fabric background. So, I had to drape it over mom while she carried him. Worked well!

Nice words…

from J, the mom of the little boy I photographed. Scroll down to see more the cutie pie’s pictures. She said, “The family just loved the pictures of R outside. The colours are just wonderful and I loved how you caught so many of his expressions. Thanks for making Rylan and I feel so comfortable with the whole experience.”

Thank you for choosing me. Now, I want to do a happy dance. :)

Welcome to

My blog which is also a website and vice versa. It’s hard to keep up with two things especially blogging and updating the galleries.  Click on the different sections  on the navigation bar above for more information. You can check out the pictures if you click on “Galleries”. There will be maternity pictures in the galleries next season. So, as at for now, please click here for past postings & pictures on my maternity clients.

Pricing for 2009 is up. Bookings for 2009 have started.  Any questions, please use the Contact Me form. I will only  be taking on 2-3 sessions per month.

More of R!

He sure knows how to pull all the good, cute faces.

His favourite teddy.

He’s ain’t heavy…

Wait for me!

More of this cutie..

I’ve finally finished up all my post-processing and am quite done with this month’s sessions. I only do 3-4 sessions a month and that’s it. Looking forward to May’s sessions.

Since my wrist hurt like crazy the other night, my husband is afraid that I might develop carpal tunnel syndrome. So, I am really glad to rest my eyes and wrists for these couple of days. I want to share more pics of toddler R.

This looks so much fun! I wonder if I could ask hubby to throw me up in the air like that. Hmm… probably not. LOL!

Forgot what mom (J) and R were looking at here.

R with his various expressions gives me so many chances at creating storyboards for this session.

Cutie patootie!

Had the pleasure to photograph a 18 month old toddler, R. Photographing toddlers are never easy. :) Found a new photography spot! Love the tree, grassy slope and horizon in the background.

Had to get mom in to warm up our session. R is not a shy kid though.

Look at that smile!!

And these smiles!! More sneak peeks coming!

First Maternity Session

For those who doesn’t know, I am having a special promo called “Looking for Bellies.” I am looking for Bellies between weeks 32-35 but I think I will change that to 35-38 to get that full “bloom”. The expecting mom will get a free one hour maternity session and one free 8×10 of your choice. You will have the option to purchase other poses in prints or digital images at 10% off. Email me to get more info!

Anyway, I had my first maternity session yesterday with the lovely Ms. M. We had a blast trying out stuff and her hubby is such a great guy for taking their daughter out for a walk during that period. I managed to post-process some pics before my kids got back from school today. I will start with pictures of the family. Though these weren’t in the maternity deal but I love watching them interact.

With their daughter, Ms. A

So full of love!

Belly pics coming later in the week. Stay tuned!

New!! Looking for Bellies!!!

I am building a maternity portfolio so I am looking for Bellies between weeks 32-35. :) The expecting mom will get a free one hour maternity session and one free 8×10 of your choice. You will have the option to purchase other poses in prints or digital images at 10% off. Email me to get more info!

No pictures.. hence I am looking for models! :)

Some pictures of my nephew

I did a “private” session with him two weeks ago. Private in the sense that no one helped me to distract him with toys. I had to shoot in my brother’s dark bedroom. If this were a paid session, I wouldn’t have agreed to it because I have to bumped up to the highest ISO. However, the dad & mom are pleased with the pics. I didn’t think it was that bad after all. LOL!!

I love his expression in this pic.

img_3323fil.jpg

Wow, it’s unbelievable but we are leaving for home next week!! Waaaaa.. I want to stay till spring. I don’t want to go back to the cold and dark (there’s no good food at home!) but hubby is sick of eating his own cooking. My son said,”Mom, I only told my teachers and friends that I will only be gone for 4 weeks.” Hmmm….

Thank you..

to everyone whom I have photographed this year.  I had great fun knowing your families. Thank you for loving the pictures I photographed and created.

My 2007 sessions are officially closed. I will be back in January but bookings will be sporadic as the weather will be  yucky. Let’s hope there will be a few extra sunshiny days than windstorms ones.  Be prepared to have two separate dates put aside if you decide to book so that we can reshedule if the first date doesn’t work.

I will be changing my pricing for 2008. Nothing major but digital images packages will be introduced (I had several requests for this), along with gallery wrapped canvas for sizes larger than 11×14. You will love it and I will have a sample ready by February.

I have just finished packaging orders to two clients.  This is not my first digital image order but this is the first one I remembered to take a picture of.

Oops! Did I do the conga too soon?

Just after a beautiful glorious Tuesday, we are back to dreadful Wednesday weather. :(

Yesterday, I was dragged by two moms from school to attend the opening of the Winners & Home Sense store at Marine Way. I didn’t want to go because I hardly shop at those stores but they said, “Oh, come on. First 100 in line get a gift certificate.” That didn’t move me much but oh well, we are doing a lot of things together nowadays. Traffic was so bad at the Byrne & Marine so we diverted to Royal Oak which was just slightly better.

When we reached Winners, there were like over 150 people lined up and going into the store. I was thinking, “Oh, come on! Is this the first Winners & Home Sense store ever in Burnaby?” We fell in line and upon entering were greeted by applause by some of their higher level people. Oh jeez.

That’s the highlight of my yesterday. It’s was crazy. LOL!!

I have finally set up the proofs for both Baby As in an online gallery. I hope both families will enjoy the pics. In the meantime, I was playing with different processing and I like this one of Baby Girl A.

As I go along…

post-processing Baby Girl A pictures, here are some favourites from a batch I worked on yesterday. I should be done with the pictures this weekend. Today is Pro-D so my eldest is at home wrecking the place up. Yeah, Pro-D days. Parents’ favourite days. :)

This pic is fast becoming a favourite.

Finally, the Mom & Son Feet pic. Lindsay saw a pic of feet I took in my website and thought maybe we could do one too. Well, it took a few takes as A was moving his feet a lot but hey, we got one! :)
