Bad mommy….
I didn’t photograph my kids since April!! With sessions on weekends and post-processing throughout the weeks, I just didn’t take the initiative to. I usually get my kids for a monthly session and I missed two months now. Aaarghh!!! First thing, the days are better I am dragging them to the nearest field.
Haven’t heard a newborn cry in a while…
but capturing moments like this makes me speechless. Ms M (my maternity client and her new baby boy, V – 11 days old)
It will be a while before I show more pics from this session from yesterday.
Happy Mother’s Day
I hope your Mother’s Day is much, MUCH better than mine. I was sick most of this morning. Woke up with a minor headache, then lots of burping and nauseous. We were at McD for lunch and I couldn’t eat and the smell of food made me sick. I told hubby we gotta go home. I rushed upstairs to the bathroom and threw up three times. Urgh!! I had a 2 hours nap. I am feeling much better but I am still having gas.
I used to photograph my kids & I on Mother’s Day but today, I just can’t do it.
This morning, my kids showed me what they got for me. On Friday, my daughter’s preschool gave me these very nice soaps. Might be from Lush – I don’t know. Last year, she gave moms hand lotion from Crabtree & Evelyn.
My daughter got me some post it notes (“you can use it as bookmarks”) and a picture she coloured. I was surprised to get homemade stuff my son. Something from chinese school. He has never wanted to learn mandarin. He went to two schools before and both were so strict in pushing the kids to memorize the words, he hated it. I got him to do it again since my daughter is at that age to start. They are now at Langara and it’s wonderful. Their teachers for this term are great and my son shows so much appreciation and effort to learn new words by himself.
But what touched me the most was this card he made from school.

Aawww, isn’t beautiful? Complete with the word “Canon” too.
New song in my head
My son’s school just had their spring concert on Tuesday. Like all school concert goes, the entertainment is so worth the ticket. My son’s class did the bon-odori japanese dance. They went in a circle in three minutes doing all the same steps over and over. I wish I know how to put my own video here but I don’t. I will figure it out.
The Grade 7 (I think) of about 15 guitarists played “Hey There Delilah”. Seriously, I haven’t heard of this song by Plain White Ts. The song has been playing in my head off and on. I found the video on YouTube. Really such a beautiful song and video. Even my 4 year old likes it. Listen to his voice. He’s so desperately yearning for his girl.
I can’t wait to show you some baby pictures I took yesterday but I am waiting for the green light from the mom. In the meantime, here’s the video of “Hey There Delilah”.
I just found another Plain White T’s song called “Our Time Now”. The “Oh oh oh oh” really gets me going!!
Oh oh oh oh
This is the dance for all the lovers
Takin’ a chance for one another
Finally it’s our time now
These are the times that we’ll remember
Breaking the city sight together
Finally it’s our time now
It’s our time now!!
More of E
The trailer series
E is just so terrific. She’s still carrying the baby at 42 weeks with grace. If it were me, I would have been crazy and want the baby out, NOW!
Yes, this little baby will be arriving this week and give mommy E a good rest.
Congratulations T&S!
I just got news that T&S are 3 months pregnant. Congratulations, you guys. I am so happy for you. I photographed their wedding at Spanish Banks two years ago. They are one of my most gorgeous couple. Their love is just so evident in every picture. They now reside in Norway. Hope to see your little one when you are back here.
The bathroom scenes
Just going to finish up showing a few more pics from my mat. session with M. I suggested a crazy thing to her and she was such a sport. And what did we do? I brought 2 litres of milk with me to the session. Yes, milk. So, what did we do with it? I told M to pour it on her belly. And poured 2 litres of milk she did. Here’s the creative shot that I had in my mind.
Thank you, Ms. M. It was so good working with you. This shot is inspired by a shot of Drew Barrymore pouring milk on her back. It was photographed by Mark Selinger. M bought both the colour and b&w print of this image.
We had to clean the kitchen and M went for a bubble bath! She looks gorgeous anywhere!

I took a portrait of her because she was looking so glorious.
Ms M is due in May. Have a good pregnancy and safe birth. Hope to meet the little kiddo sometime.
Rick-rolled!!
I was checking out a website yesterday and all of the sudden, I was “Rick-Rolled!” What is that, you ask? Well, a Youtube window pops up and Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up” video starts playing. It’s actually a prank of sorts. You can read about it in the Wiki Rick-Rolled.
As long as it’s not Kylie, I would be very happy.
Spring is nigh
Took out my macro lens today. Haven’t played with it for a long time. Valentine’s flowers from hubby. I wonder what they fed the flowers. They last this long!
Adidas Bounce
I am looking for another pair of shoes and I tried the new Adidas Bounce at Athlete’s World over the weekend. Boy oh boy. This must be the lightest shoes I’ve ever worn. Comfy and it doesn’t feel like you are wearing shoes. But at $139.99, I’ll pass. I am not making any money yet.
Took my dog for grooming today…
Petcetera’s work is not very good and the price is average.
Petsmart is overpriced and the work is horrible!! I can’t ask the groomer to put back all the hair on my dog again so that I can get him back to my previous groomer, can I?? Sunnyslope is still the best!!!
Petsmart’s half-assed workmanship.

Good tips for hanging pictures
How to hang them? How to place them? Will they stay on the wall as you want them?
Good tips from Hanging Art from househunting.ca. (and no, I am not house-hunting if you must know)
Sometimes, these are the only thing I want to photograph…
people in their most rarest and emotional forms.

Pictures by: Melvin Foo.
Have a look at this blog link to my friend, Melvin’s blog. Thaipusam is a celebrated in Malaysia around this time and it’s always joyous amid the pain. I always felt a sense of calm when I joined in the celebration — waiting for our turns to give prayers, eating vegetarian food…It has been years since I went to one. I am kicking myself for not co-ordinating my travel plans to include this. (Forgot all about it actually).
This year, Melvin outdid himself in photojournalism photography with his Thaipusam pics. His b&w pics are killing me. Great stuff, Mel!!
The Thaipusam entry
He could have done it three weeks earlier…
but my nephew, Tristan decided to do it after we have left. (groan) Got an email and pictures from my sis-in-law that Tris has learned to sit up by himself. Bravo, babe. We all missed you. Your cousin brother said he loves you. I miss your cheeky smile when you wake up from your 5 mins nap. Miss your arms flap (guess you won’t be doing that much now?). Drive your parents crazy, ok? LOL!
something about sushi…
Since we came home to Canada last week, we went on a sushi rampage. Not sure why. Shouldn’t we be missing Tim Hortons? Anyway, when on vacation in Penang, we visited Sushi King with my good friend & family. Had a blast choosing dishes from the conveyor belt. It’s more fun than all you can eat, LOL!
Back home, I love spicy salmon sushi from T&T. Just LOVE it. They usually have it out at noon but if you are early, you can ask them to pack it for you depending on how busy they are packing all the sushi.
So, finally in all these years I tried Yakko Sushi which is located at Station Square. I had the lunch box A which consists of one tuna sushi, one salmon sushi, 4 mini salmon sushi & california rolls. Also including is your choice of beef or chicken teriyaki (the beef is better!) with rice, miso soup, gyoza or chicken karange (pick the gyoza!) salad (dang! the dressing is one of the best I’ve tasted!) and a slice of orange. The second time I went there this week, I had the same thing. It’s just so delicious and an all rounder. Don’t go after 1pm though. I waited 30 mins for mine that day.
We also tried out Genji Sushi at Marine Crossing. This is one expensive sushi restaurant (the decor spells expensive – just look at those unique lighting!). We had the teriyaki chicken with rice (too much sauce), chicken udon (the soup is yummy) and vegetable sushi. Pretty ok. The chef gave a complimentary fried sweet potato sushi topped with mayo dressing and it was good.
Still, I’d prefer Yakko Sushi lunch boxes. Great value and it’s good.
Darn Royal Mail.. again!
No, it’s not their fault that I keep buying stamps from them. Why can’t Canada Post comes out with great collectible stamps? I blogged about buying the Harry Potter stamps last year. So, guess what was in the mailbox today? A new stamps from Royal Mail. What collection is it this time?
JAMES BOND!!!
That’s who. Well, Ian Fleming actually.
I relented and just bought two this time. The Presentation Pack shown here:

and the First Day Cover Miniature Sheet.

Both look really good. My belated christmas present to myself I guess LOL!
Where’s the sun?
Oh where.. oh where??
Yesterday, I made two Malaysian delicacies. One is something I observed how my grandmother made them. Basically, it’s just deep fried sweet potato with peanut fillings. The second one is “long yoke” or chinese bbq jerky. I loved the ones I ate in Penang and obviously, the shop has their own secret recipe. I found one at Lily Ng’s blog. She’s a Malaysian living in the US and has tons of Malaysian recipes.
So, here’s my version of “long yoke”. Doesn’t taste too bad but if compared to the store, it is obviously lacking something.
A plug for my brother-in-law, Dave
He is an instructor for Ho Math & Chess, Burnaby and is opening a store front at Royal Oak Ave. His store’s opening is on Jan 3rd from 3pm-6pm. Check out his website Ho Math & Chess Burnaby to find out more about this unique way in learning math and problem solving. My 7 year old goes there every week and loves it.

Happy 2008!!
May everyone has a good celebration and enjoy a healthy & happy year ahead. Thanks to all who has given me the opportunity to share a glimpse of your life with your babies this year.
Something to blog about..
Swarovski crystal beads jewellery making. I just discovered this through my godsis, Magd. It’s her latest hobby and from what I find out, it’s an EXPENSIVE hobby!! I browsed through the japanese magazines she bought and apparently, you can almost make anything from these beads! Amazing. And no, thank you. I am not getting involved in another expensive hobby. Photography is enough. I used to go crazy buying cross-stitch patterns before.
There are cheaper beads jewellery but I was told it’s from China and it will lose its shine after a while. Swarovski is reputable for its crystals hence just the beads itself are expensive.
That said, Magd’s own personal collection is pretty impressive. Here are the pictures.
The rings!! Notice the cute purse pendant she made?

The braclets!!! (The red beads are tacks)

Close-ups of the braclets. Notice the use of different clasps.

Magd gave me a custom-made braclet (I chose the colours and design). Thank you. My daughter got one too. Both are lovely. If anyone of you are interested in getting one, Magd is located in Penang, Malaysia. She doesn’t have a website but if you are really, REALLy interested, drop me an email and I will give you her contact info.
I am mentioned at Tracy Joy!
I bought a camera bag from Tracy Joy last month and took it along with me on my vacation. I was in Kuala Lumpur earlier this week and emailed Tracy to show her bag is having a good time too.
Check out her blog
As a stay-at-home mom who has a home business on the side, I try to support moms who do the same thing as me. Her bag acts great as a walk around everyday bag.
Hello from Hong Kong!
Or at least from Hong Kong Airport.
The kids & I have been stuck here since 8am Tuesday (since we landed from Vancouver) and our next flight to Malaysia is not until 3:20pm! Thank goodness someone in the HK Airport Authority has the good mind to replace a part of the seating area with a huge play area for the kids. This must have happened recently because when we were here last May, there wasn’t anything like that. So, thank you whoever you are. The kids are safe playing in the socks only area overlooking the runway with an occasional plane flying by. The weather today is horrible — heavy smog. I can’t believe this – really can’t.
We flew off from Vancouver at 2:40am and we were at the airport by 11pm. The kids didn’t even have a nap during the day and by 1am, they couldn’t take it anymore and dozed off uncomfortably at the waiting area. Throughout the 13 hour flight, I am thankful that they were great – they slept, ate, excited, etc. Not a complaint. Only mommy complained because the airplane toilet was horrible — sticky with pee, urgh! Mommy had to go the toilet three times was all even though she only needed to go once to pee.
It was the 747 and it was new. Love the back head rest which you can adjust. But the best was the “Tivo” kind of on-demand movies or shows that you can watch, pause, fast forward or backward on your whim. LOVE IT!!
Two more hours to go waiting at the gate waiting area. Six more hours of flight. Phew.
