Happy Holidays!!

Another year is drawing to a close. I have to apologize for not updating more often but my family life is as such. It’s chaotic, messy, crazy, funny, laughter – the whole works. Thanks to my clients whom I’ve met this year. As per their wishes, some didn’t want to be featured in my blogsite or gallery. I respect their wishes.

Have a great holidays folks! Celebrate life with your family and close friends. They are worth it.

I like them fresh…… by Lissalo.com Burnaby newborn photographer

at 4 days old, Mila is my youngest newborn so far. I’ve photographed her big sister, Mia when she was 8 days old.

Day was cloudy. Lighting wasn’t that great at their place but I had to make it work. :)

<

Happy Birthday to my mommy!!

Hope you have a happy day.

I made and sent her a 11″ x 15″ photo book since I haven’t sent her any prints for a long, long time. Well, if she knows how to use a computer, it wouldn’t be that long. :) Anyway, yes, she loves it. She wasn’t expecting a huge book either! :)

In my package, a 8″ x 8″ photo book is included. I think that’s a very good size to bring along anywhere to brag about your session. I am thoroughly in love with this 11″ x 15″ book as well. Maybe a good option upgrade? You decide! :)

Lovely presentation box

Here’s something I would love to offer to my clients. A 5 x 7 presentation box, with your favourite picture printed on the cover and inside the box. How cool is that.

The product is offered from the US and sadly, the shipping costs to ship it across the border is high. Because it’s such a personal product (your own pics on the box), it’s just too expensive for me to offer it. Add the UPS extra charges and duties, this little box is going to knock a big chunk of $$ from your bank account.

But we can look and dream :)

It’s getting harder…

Gosh, getting my kids to co-operate on a photo session seems to get harder every year. Even the Girl who used to love showing off her cuteness doesn’t want to have anything to do with the camera. I think you parents know what I’m talking about. Strange thing is, I find  other kids are very responsive to me. So I guess our own kids do get sick of mommy or daddy shoving the camera into their faces all the time.

With such good gorgeous weather over the weekend (what a bonus this year, eh?), we headed to the beach for the kids to play and mommy to do some photographing.

Ahoy there! Can you see me?

We dropped by Starbucks to get the Coconut Mocha Frapp (pretty good) and head over to the little meadow we know. It’s now filled with tall buttercups (I just discovered buttercups are considered weeds and my perspective of them in my own yard has changed. Damn!) The Girl somehow didn’t mind the camera so much then.

So, here’s my advice of the day. Shoot your kids! Get your camera into their faces and shoot them. These are memories for you and your partner. Time passes so fast, the kids are eating more and growing out of their clothes like the next day, you need all that memories on pictures or video. Your brain doesn’t have enough room to keep everything inside. Get those kids before it’s too late. Hire a professional photographer to do a family session each year. Hire me or someone else… don’t get someone so cheap they don’t know what they are doing. You have read about cheap wedding photographers who ruined wedding days memories. It’s true. Stuff like that happen.

So, I’m pushing myself to do two sessions with my kids each month. I don’t want to waste anymore time. Neither do you.

Water for Elephants

I haven’t read the book or watched the movie but Reese Witherspoon’s Vogue shoot with Tai the elephant is just GORGEOUS!! The shoot was done by Peter Lindbergh. Now I need to find myself an elephant :)

2011 season starts in April

Mini portrait sessions to start off my new year in April. I’m still drafting this idea on duration of session, pricing etc but yeah. Full details in March. Meanwhile, I’m taking my time to enjoy my guilty pleasure of facebooking, reading blogs on food, new inspiration, reading & going out with friends.

Happy Holidays from mine to yours — South Surrey/White Rock children photographer

Another year is coming to a close. All I want for Christmas is maybe not to have a reindeer sitting on my head :) Jokes aside, I hope to be a more active in my business in the new year. My kids have settled down in their new school, we have settled down in our new house. We pretty have made some new friends here.

If you are looking for a photographer, don’t hesitate to email me to ask whatever questions you need to ask. Besides having a budget for photography, the working relationship with the photographer is essential.

I bid you all a Happy Holidays and may you have a wonderful time together this Christmas sharing love, joy and laughter.

Getting ready for 2011 — South Surrey/White Rock Children Photographer

Wow! It has been crazy these couple of weeks. First snow day here in Metro Vancouver, I celebrated another birthday, learned new things, this appointment and that appointment. Finally, having some good rest. Hope you are too.

As with a tradition I started, I always photograph my kids when it snowed. It started a couple of years ago and I only missed one year. Not sure why I didn’t photograph that year. As my kids grow, it’s harder to get both of them in pictures. As usual my daughter is a willing participant :)

Not exactly “American Gothic” :)

Cute! ~ South Surrey/White Rock Children Photographer

Ooo… I’ve just made a coffee book for my previous client whom I did a family photography session recently.  I love it, she loves it and I am including it in my digital package.  I also give to clients other cute surprises as well.  Ssh… can’t tell, it’s a surprise. Previous moms-clients have loved them so and I bet you will too. :)

Gorgeous is not a hard word to say out loud – South Surrey/White Rock Children Photographer

Nope!

Today, I’m featuring LARGE sized pictures of the family photography session I had in Surrey. There are so many pictures from the session that I want to share but it’s not that possible.  So, a few more pictures to feast your eyes on.

Love the stairs. Wish there’s a crane on the beach to lift me up midway though.

A beauty at just 7 years old.

Mom & Dad in their own world.

I’ve always wanted to shoot right at the sun to get this kind of clear but hazy portraits. Love, LOVE these shots.

Kids being kids. Love that they could break out the silliness.

Children & family photography session – South Surrey/White Rock Children Photographer

Remember about the beach I talked about in my last post? Well, what do you know? I had a children and family photography session done there just this past weekend. It’s mostly a children photography session but I added a few pics of mom & dad and some family pictures as well.

So, here’s some sneak peek for mom while I slog on with the post processing. Btw, Mom is the owner of The Facial Room, a spa here in South Surrey. Click on the link to check out the organic skincare products.

In the first 10-15 mins of any session which I called the warm up period, I don’t usually think of getting good pictures — yet. I want the kiddos (or the parents) to get used to the camera; I give pointers on how to stand or how to face the light. And then, it’s playtime!! And what surprise shots I got during the warm up.

Look at Big Sister, S. Gorgeous!

Kid sister, I, is not to be outdone. Beautiful.

Here’s a warm up family picture. Mom knows her stuff :)

Let’s get back to the girls again.

I had to get mom & dad out there too.

And of course, a family picture.

Ok, enough sensory overload for today. A few more favourites from the session in a couple of days. Have a great day!

My summer cuties

I’ve been cutting down on sessions work before I moved. I’m still settling down in our new place but there are so many things you need to do but you just want to put them aside. But I’m glad I got this opportunity to photograph these cuties.

Big sister is not shy at all in front of the camera.

She’s giving me all the attention. Well, for at least 5 seconds. :)

I heart this one even though I shot this blindly holding the camera away. Her expression is so priceless.

I love triptych because they convey a sense of movement, motion.

Now, did I say Big Sister has a Cutie Little Brother?

Mom says he’s slightly moody as he needs a nap. So, sometimes he doesn’t want to smile.

At times, he does! :)

The kids have this cute frog bubble maker. Big Sister was having fun spreading all the bubbles on Little Brother and Little Brother said no more. He tried to walk away but Big Sister was having too much fun.
Ah… childhood.

In another life, not so long ago.. Part 2

When summer comes along, I always remembered the fun days I did weddings. Shooting all day in the heat is not that fun but when I looked through the pictures I took, I just smiled.

One very memorable wedding I did was the simplest of weddings. Just two picnic tables with the ceremony down at the beach with families and friends. The warmth and love exuded by everyone was overwhelming. I wish most couples would opt for this simple wedding and if you are, let me know. I might just untangle from my promise that I won’t do weddings again :)

Impromptu engagement session. Guy just hopped off the plane from Sweden.

The Wedding Day.

The couple now lives in Sweden with their baby girl. :)

Busy days…

I’m so clogged up with DIY renos on our new home. I still have boxes and luggages all over the place and I need to get our new home on track before I tackle other things.

That’s it for this year.. thank you.

Another year ends. Time flies by measuring how fast your babies grow. I can sure attest to that. It wasn’t that long ago, I was enjoying my 2nd baby and blink, she’s in Grade 1!

I always tell my moms clients this. Photograph your babies whenever you can yourself. With your own camera or cellphone.  Save some money and have your family portraits done by a professional every year if you can afford it. You won’t regret it.  Why? Because someone else will see your family different and you will be surprised how you or your babies are captured in pictures.

At least, you will be in the pictures as well. ;)

To cap off this year, here’s the baby brother of the most fun girl I featured earlier.

Precious babe with his daddy. Daddy isn’t that bad on the eyes either, hahaha!

This pic looks similar to a 3D ultrasound picture!

My new season starts in March or April 2010. I will keep you posted here.

Have a great holidays and a happy new year.

Precious!

Seldom a high energy toddler takes my attention away from the main subject that I was hired to photograph. Mom hired me to photograph her new baby brother and maybe just a few shots of big sister. But I ended with an equal amount of pictures of big sister. That’s because she has the most infectious smile. She coaxed me into getting her out of the crib and then we made a mess of  mom’s & dad’s bed.  Then,  we play in the living room and in the backyard with dad. Phew!

But as you scroll down to view her pictures, you can see that she encapsulates what a great, happy childhood every kid should go through.

I need the sun!

What a lousy week weather-wise! I can’t wait for the sun to show up again. My this week’s sessions were all rescheduled to next week or the week after. I’m so bummed that I couldn’t get to photograph the new baby and a little girl. Fingers crossed for good weather from Tuesday till end of summer!!! LOL!

So, yesterday I asked my daughter if she would want to be photographed by mommyduring a break from the rain. She agreed if only she wore her favourite skirt and got to play with the umbrella. No problem, babe. So, here’s the pics from our session. Trying to find inspiration on different processing. I was feeling a bit vintagy — you know, lower saturation of colours and all. It was a fun session until she slipped on something slippery. :(

New pictures to share

I am so happy that I’ve finally photographed my doctor’s newborn baby girl. I think I might go back and photograph some more after they’ve moved to their new home in August. Please welcome, Ms. A. :)

Two of my favourites from the session:

Finally, Ms. A was a bit fussy at some point and I said to my doc to calm her down before she got too stressed from the crying. So, mommy was actually rocking her a bit and I thought, that’s a nice picture and clicked! Believe me, they were like just for like a few seconds before Ms. A fussed up again. :)

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

What a week, eh?

Today’s weather is slightly cooler and it made me miss the heat! LOL. This evening we are going to hubby’s company’s Family Day bbq. All the kids who registered got a t-shirt. Not bad!

I am excited for my newborn session on Sunday. I almost fidgeted from not doing any photography this week. I so enjoy doing two sessions a week. It gives me a breather in between sessions. I really love this “job” I am doing. It has been a long time since I enjoyed working.

Here are some pics I did a week ago for L, a 10 month old. She was sick on that day but she was still a cutie-patootie trooper. Her mom calls her “quite a ham”. :) I have to agree. L is another lucky baby – her own nursery/room and lots of people showering her with so much love. It was incredible.

I envisioned the baby in the tub right in a middle of a meadow or grassy area but sadly, they didn’t have grass on their lawn. Her mom said they will have grass in two weeks.

Twice the fun

This week is supposed to be my week off from photography. Well, it is but I caught up with my post processing. I’m done with all the pics and every disc is set to be given out to all moms.

My family doctor called me very early this morning to cancel the newborn session as her baby is sick with stomach flu. Hope the little girl will get better soon. I can’t wait to photograph her. That said, I am waiting for another mom to confirm her session with her newborn this week. I love, LOVE photographing newborns now.

I posted some of “E” in the other posting but I’ve finished processing her pics and found two more I like.img_1447-bw.jpg e

Doesn’t she look awesome? I watched her sleeping for a while and it was so calming. :)

Ok, now to Lynn. I know you said I should take my time to do the pics and believe me, I have. I know you are dying to see the pics of D. So, here’s a peek. I’ll be dropping off the discs to you soon. Will email ya.

I love a fairy who smirks. :) And lastly, this is the pic you said, “Oh, doesn’t she look like an angel?” Yep, she does! :) Thanks for letting me photograph D, Lynn.

The case of carrying too much heavy stuff..

or sleeping wrongly?? I am not sure. I woke up this morning with my right shoulder and neck just basically tensed and slightly sore. I want a back massage so badly but it’s so expensive. :( Yesterday, I carried my heavy gear for over an hour doing a session at Deer Lake. Might be because of that. I’m planning to take next week off from photography and enjoy the summer with my kids but what do you know? My family doctor who was pregnant and was due yesterday called me this afternoon to say that her baby came two weeks early. She is now back home and that I can go to her place anytime to photograph her new baby daughter. I am soooooooooo happy she called me and am pleased it’s a girl. :) I have been photographing so many girls lately though but I don’t mind. Girls are fun, boys are neat!! heheh.

This morning, I went to Surrey to photograph a 10 month old girl. She was sweet. I now have three sessions to post process and I might have to drag them out for a few extra days because of my shoulder. It was a bit tough photographing this morning as I was sore.

Anyway, I do have three pics I did of the 16 day old girl called E. She is my first newborn who didn’t fuss or cry too much; my first newborn who actually slept on my prop and let me posed her; and my first newborn who didn’t pee on my stuff, LOL!!

pic 1

I really like empty spaces these days. It does work on newborn pictures.

pic 2

My new prop. A steel bucket/pail I found at Winners/Home Sense. On sale for only $9.00. As Homer Simpson would say, “WHOO-HOO!”

It’s beginning to look more like summer.

Yes, finally! Hot days with sunshine and blue skies. :) I just had a session with D (whose older sister S is the Girl Fairy!) this morning. So, will look into the pics later.

Here are two pictures of A, the 18 day old baby girl I photographed on Sunday. I really, really, REALLY like the second pic a lot. If I have a studio, I would just blow that up and have it framed on my wall.

Busy… I like.

Wow, I have been photographing babies & kids almost everyday. I love it but I’m happy to have a break today. I am still post processing the pics I took on Sunday on T & A. I have some of T to post today. T has got to be the one of the luckiest little girl. She’s beautiful with big eyes and a gorgeous smile. Even when she’s not smiling, she looks good. I have to learn from her, LOL! And her mom Sylvia is so talented in decorating. She drew the flower on the bedroom’s wall and have all sort of Pottery Barn Kids quilt and girlish stuff in T’s bedroom. On to the pictures of T.t1 img_1224-01.jpgimg_1328-01.jpgimg_1258-01.jpg
