Spring is near
Oh wow! It’s going to be the end of February soon. Things have been slow and fast around here. I’m not sure if I’m going to do any sessions this year. I think I hit “photographers’ block”. It’s hard to admit it when you are doing a business.
I’m not actively advertising but if you have query, just contact me.
In the meantime, I’d like to share some pictures I took recently. It has been a long since I photographed wildlife. I don’t have the long bazookas (that’s what I liked to call long zoom lenses). So when I was there, I was flabbergasted by all these bazookas other wildlife photographers were using. 500mm, 600mm, 1.5 extender and what not.
I only had my trusty 200mm. Most of these pictures were cropped but I liked how it turned out.
Enjoy.
FYI: Migratory snow owls at Boundary Bay, Delta.
Happy Holidays!!
Another year is drawing to a close. I have to apologize for not updating more often but my family life is as such. It’s chaotic, messy, crazy, funny, laughter – the whole works. Thanks to my clients whom I’ve met this year. As per their wishes, some didn’t want to be featured in my blogsite or gallery. I respect their wishes.
Have a great holidays folks! Celebrate life with your family and close friends. They are worth it.
Be crazy!!
You know you have those vacation photos which everyone stood around in front of something, smiling and all that. It’s great memories but after a few vacations don’t you think it would be more interesting to do something different in front of Disney & Mickey statue or something?
This is something I tried with my daughter at Coronoda Beach in San Diego. Captioning it on your printed album will be an added bonus!
Mommy practising Darth Vader’s Force Pull on her daughter.
But alas, the Dark Side doesn’t win. Daughter gave Mom a Jedi kick and sent Mom sprawling. As Yoda says, “Size matters not, … Look at me. Judge me by size, do you?”
Try something crazy for your vacation photos. Heck! Try it on any day
Post vacation blues
Summer came and gone. And what we have now is rain, wind and dark days. Not really the days made for photography… unless you are adventurous.
We spent 10 days of fun, tiring, a little stressed up vacation in So. Cal. The kids got out from school for 8 days and spent their birthdays each in Disneyland and Legoland. It’s our first time to So. Cal and what’s not to like about there except the crazy freeway traffic and exepensive food in the parks. Weather-wise, every day was perfect except for the last two rainy and windy days. I didn’t mind it so much as long as the sun is up again and temperature hits the high 20s.
I’ve been spending time laundering (wished it was extra money but it’s all dirty clothes from vacation), cleaning the house, and getting the kids to finish up 8 days of homework over the long weekend.
Time to have some coffee (too bad no Cheesecake Factory Upside Down Pineapple cheesecake – have you guys tried it? Isn’t it out of this world lovely??) and quiet time before the kids are back from school.
I go hmm…..
As everyone know, summer came late so all of our family activities were squashed in the last 2 weeks of August. It was a pretty good 2 weeks and now with the kids back to school, I’ve gotten pretty lazy. It’s usually after I have my run in the morning. For the rest of the day, I just laze. I’m not sure if I have frequent readers of my blog but if you are, thank you for staying with me.
These days, businesses tend to go all out with not just a website, a blog but on social media like Twitter, Facebook and whatever. You can see that I neither have a Twitter or Facebook of my business. I do have my own personal accounts. So what does that say about me? For one, I’m not good at expanding my business. My arguement is I’m not looking to expand. I just like doing what I do – take pictures when any one wants my service. I take up projects that interests me (I’m announcing one later!). Sure! If my family had to depend on me for money, we would be probably out on the streets. I don’t cheapen my rates just because I don’t photograph as frequent as someone who fills up their days with lots and lots of cheaper sessions.
I’m good at what I do and that’s what I charge.
Not sure why I’m ranting about that. I guess that issue has been buried deep within me, something or someone triggered it and I’m getting it out.
I like them fresh…… by Lissalo.com Burnaby newborn photographer
at 4 days old, Mila is my youngest newborn so far. I’ve photographed her big sister, Mia when she was 8 days old.
Day was cloudy. Lighting wasn’t that great at their place but I had to make it work.
Happy Birthday to my mommy!!
Hope you have a happy day.
I made and sent her a 11″ x 15″ photo book since I haven’t sent her any prints for a long, long time. Well, if she knows how to use a computer, it wouldn’t be that long.
Anyway, yes, she loves it. She wasn’t expecting a huge book either!
In my package, a 8″ x 8″ photo book is included. I think that’s a very good size to bring along anywhere to brag about your session. I am thoroughly in love with this 11″ x 15″ book as well. Maybe a good option upgrade? You decide!
It’s getting harder…
Gosh, getting my kids to co-operate on a photo session seems to get harder every year. Even the Girl who used to love showing off her cuteness doesn’t want to have anything to do with the camera. I think you parents know what I’m talking about. Strange thing is, I find other kids are very responsive to me. So I guess our own kids do get sick of mommy or daddy shoving the camera into their faces all the time.
With such good gorgeous weather over the weekend (what a bonus this year, eh?), we headed to the beach for the kids to play and mommy to do some photographing.
Ahoy there! Can you see me?
We dropped by Starbucks to get the Coconut Mocha Frapp (pretty good) and head over to the little meadow we know. It’s now filled with tall buttercups (I just discovered buttercups are considered weeds and my perspective of them in my own yard has changed. Damn!) The Girl somehow didn’t mind the camera so much then.
So, here’s my advice of the day. Shoot your kids! Get your camera into their faces and shoot them. These are memories for you and your partner. Time passes so fast, the kids are eating more and growing out of their clothes like the next day, you need all that memories on pictures or video. Your brain doesn’t have enough room to keep everything inside. Get those kids before it’s too late. Hire a professional photographer to do a family session each year. Hire me or someone else… don’t get someone so cheap they don’t know what they are doing. You have read about cheap wedding photographers who ruined wedding days memories. It’s true. Stuff like that happen.
So, I’m pushing myself to do two sessions with my kids each month. I don’t want to waste anymore time. Neither do you.

A little dessert for a monday afternoon — japanese purin
I regularly frequent food blogs to get ideas or new recipes to try. A food blogger was talking about japanese purin they bought from a store in Port Moody and decided to try making it themselves. I decided to make it today as it’s very easy to make with regular ingredients which you have in your pantry & fridge all the time.
It’s similar to flan and it’s a bit too sweet for me. I like the smooth texture with caramel. But it’s not something I would want to eat every day
If you are interested, here’s the receipe from About.com. Japanese Purin
Another weekend…
another something from my kids.
As previously mentioned, my son had some tummy probs. Then, the next weekend it was my daughter’s turn. Lost her appetite in the afternoon and threw up at night. For her case, it was two days. By the 3rd day, she was feeling for a McD nugget. So I guess she got better then. At the end of that week, I was joking with her teacher that another weekend, hopefully nothing more.
How wrong I was.
We went for dimsum with my father-in-law and Metrotown Fortune House on Sunday. After we were done, we all walked down the stairs (the one from the skytrain level to the bus level) and my daughter did her 2 steps jump, slipped and landed wrongly. She went “It’s ouchy. It’s very ouchy.”
One thing you should know about my daughter’s cries is that it provokes you to laugh. I’m serious. Even when she was a baby, the way she cried just made us laugh. There are some babies or kids whose cries just make you feel so sad and you just want to cuddle and comfort them. But my daughter’s…..
Anyway, the ankle swelled. We tried to rent a crutch for her but the major ones (like London Drugs or Shoppers Drug Mart) didn’t have shorter ones. On Monday, I scrouged medical supplies stores. One of them helped me to call a pharmacy he knows in Langley (Valley Evergreen Pharmacy) and yes, they have one. But it was raining so hard and I didn’t want to drive there. So, I called places, drove north and then south to those places to let my daughter tried it. Finally, we hit jackpot! Pharmasave at 16th Ave. Thank goodness.
So, if the need arises and you need to rent a pair of crutches about 37″ long, go to Pharmasave. Their rental is the cheapest too. $20 deposit. $5 a week. $15 a month.
The girl is at school being mobile and showing off her crutches.
Another weekend is coming and 2 weeks of spring break. Fingers crossed.
Time flies. It’s already the end of February.
First off, if you have been here before you would have noticed that I’ve changed the theme of this blog. Really like this one. Alas, I have to sacrifice my logo banner because it doesn’t seem to support it. I also have to sacrifice my 900 px width (i.e. large) pictures. I’ll see how this goes but this theme is really darn stylish.
I think this weekend’s snow would be the last snowfall for this winter. Can’t wait for spring. But, those poor snowdrops and crocuses which are already out….
My boy was sick from some stomach virus and threw up several times yesterday.
He seems to be back to his old self now.
Today is Kuch’s birthday. He’s 12. My first dog, Bengy who is with my mom just turned 13 this month too. Kuch is getting to be some grouchy old dog at times but everyone thinks he’s a puppy. The birthday boy got his bath today and he didn’t like it at all.
But see how clean and fluffy he is now.
I’m going to start blogging more again. I’ll talk about anything photography-wise or just mindless rants. It’s my blog
I have been photographing for the school a bit but I can’t show the pictures here. Too many parents to ask permission from but then, it’s the school project. It would be nice to show my work here too though.
Sunday is still young. Have a good rest.
2011 season starts in April
Mini portrait sessions to start off my new year in April. I’m still drafting this idea on duration of session, pricing etc but yeah. Full details in March. Meanwhile, I’m taking my time to enjoy my guilty pleasure of facebooking, reading blogs on food, new inspiration, reading & going out with friends.
Happy Holidays from mine to yours — South Surrey/White Rock children photographer
Another year is coming to a close. All I want for Christmas is maybe not to have a reindeer sitting on my head
Jokes aside, I hope to be a more active in my business in the new year. My kids have settled down in their new school, we have settled down in our new house. We pretty have made some new friends here.
If you are looking for a photographer, don’t hesitate to email me to ask whatever questions you need to ask. Besides having a budget for photography, the working relationship with the photographer is essential.
I bid you all a Happy Holidays and may you have a wonderful time together this Christmas sharing love, joy and laughter.

Getting ready for 2011 — South Surrey/White Rock Children Photographer
Wow! It has been crazy these couple of weeks. First snow day here in Metro Vancouver, I celebrated another birthday, learned new things, this appointment and that appointment. Finally, having some good rest. Hope you are too.
As with a tradition I started, I always photograph my kids when it snowed. It started a couple of years ago and I only missed one year. Not sure why I didn’t photograph that year. As my kids grow, it’s harder to get both of them in pictures. As usual my daughter is a willing participant

Cute! ~ South Surrey/White Rock Children Photographer
Ooo… I’ve just made a coffee book for my previous client whom I did a family photography session recently. I love it, she loves it and I am including it in my digital package. I also give to clients other cute surprises as well. Ssh… can’t tell, it’s a surprise. Previous moms-clients have loved them so and I bet you will too.

Gorgeous is not a hard word to say out loud – South Surrey/White Rock Children Photographer
Nope!
Today, I’m featuring LARGE sized pictures of the family photography session I had in Surrey. There are so many pictures from the session that I want to share but it’s not that possible. So, a few more pictures to feast your eyes on.
Love the stairs. Wish there’s a crane on the beach to lift me up midway though.

I’ve always wanted to shoot right at the sun to get this kind of clear but hazy portraits. Love, LOVE these shots.

Kids being kids. Love that they could break out the silliness.

Children & family photography session – South Surrey/White Rock Children Photographer
Remember about the beach I talked about in my last post? Well, what do you know? I had a children and family photography session done there just this past weekend. It’s mostly a children photography session but I added a few pics of mom & dad and some family pictures as well.
So, here’s some sneak peek for mom while I slog on with the post processing. Btw, Mom is the owner of The Facial Room, a spa here in South Surrey. Click on the link to check out the organic skincare products.
In the first 10-15 mins of any session which I called the warm up period, I don’t usually think of getting good pictures — yet. I want the kiddos (or the parents) to get used to the camera; I give pointers on how to stand or how to face the light. And then, it’s playtime!! And what surprise shots I got during the warm up.
Look at Big Sister, S. Gorgeous!

Kid sister, I, is not to be outdone. Beautiful.

Here’s a warm up family picture. Mom knows her stuff
Let’s get back to the girls again.

I had to get mom & dad out there too.

And of course, a family picture.

Ok, enough sensory overload for today. A few more favourites from the session in a couple of days. Have a great day!
