Here’s something for…
S and her sister, D. I’ve been busy and am trying to post process the pics as fast as I can. This picture was taken 2 days ago at Deer Lake Park. S loves this dress! I was asking her to do a twirl or a mini dance but I don’t think she liked the idea much, LOL! Ok, back to work.

Fiction vs Non Fiction
I had a sort of impromptu session with – the little boy I did a session with before – M’s oldest sister, S yesterday. Before I don my mining hat and go down to the post processing saltmine, I want to share something my son wrote in school. The class was learning on how to write fiction and non-fiction like plots, characters and settings. Since tomorrow (Thursday) will be the last day of school, the kids took home most of their stuff. Here’s two pieces that my son wrote that caught my eye.
[They are supposed to do a "WANTED" ad]
1) Wanted: Three Little Pigs. Reward $50.00 if found. Obey Big Bad Wolf. He can catch you and eat you. If found, contact….
2) Wanted: Little Red Riding Hood. Stay Alert! Stay Alive! Do not go near. Beware of Wolf.
Kinda cute that he used those characters. hahah… Lastly:
Non-Fiction: One day I had a loose tooth. It came out when I was eating breakfast. My house number is XXX. The end.
Comments from mommy: BORING!
Fiction: It was a beautiful day.. until a bad storm came! Lightning flashed, the thunder crashed! Until a funnel cloud appeared. It was a tornado!!! He knew he had to fight.
And he won!
Comments from mommy: VERY GOOD!
I am just so happy his fiction is so good. I particularly like the Lightning flashed, the thunder crashed part. LOL! For a going to be 7 y/o, it’s not bad. Really — since we don’t have tornadoes in BC.
A tiring (yester) day..
I volunteered to supervise a group of kids for my son’s school trip to the beach. We had enough parents volunteer this time that each parent got 2-3 kids to supervise. The weather yesterday’s morning was horrible. Dark clouds, windy and cold and we were going to the beach! The kids (being kids) were excited. We boarded the bus at half past nine and reached the beach area by 10-ish. Since there was information that the beach was crowded with a local school, we headed to the Park to chill out. We literally CHILLED in the wind. We took a break for snack and then the kids played at the playground. At 11:15am, we all marched to the beach about 20 mins away. Lucky for us, the sun broke through and it was sunny and warm for the rest of the time we were there.

I got a bit bored with the scenery and saw this on the sand.

My hometown is a tropical island with nice sandy beaches, coconut trees waving in the breeze and waves rushing to the shore. So coming to here (two years in a row) and looking at low tide mud beds, sharp stones and pebbles isn’t my cup of tea. I wish we can go to Spanish Banks instead of here next year.
Anyway, I got a nice pic of my son with his favourite teacher, Ms. C.
Some new pictures
of newborns! Finally, hehe. You know how they say newborns sleep a lot well, these two I photographed this past week weren’t that. Both were wide eyed and one was very fussy. For 2.5 hours I was there, I only had about 10 mins of photography. I am rescheduling her next week. I know 2.5 hours is a long time just standing around waiting for a baby to calm down but babies are unpredictable.
The first I photographed is a boy of 4 weeks old whom I shall call E. His mom said he’s not much of a sleeper and she was tired looking.
I couldn’t managed to do any sleeping & crossed legs pics at all. I persuaded mom to change to take some pics and I’m glad she did. Got a gem here. E’s expression is priceless.
The next day, I was around the neighbourhood again to photograph an 8 day old girl. I forget how small, light and fragile they are. It has been some time since I carried a new born. She was very fussy and crying a lot. Her mom nursed her and thought she was falling asleep but she just went wide eyed on us and fussed. We tried to let her cry it out a bit but mom didn’t want to distress “A” too much. But all is not lost even though it was about 10 mins of photography. I got my “magazine-look” baby-on-a-shelf pic!
I don’t think her mom thought it was a good idea but when I showed her the pic on the LCD, the prop looks so different from real life. The shelf was actually messy with kids books. I got them down and brought some stuff from big sister’s room. Another “magazine-like” pic.
Not everyone will have such good furniture as props in their homes but I hope to find them. The above changing dresser is actually a kitchen cabinet from Target. I love all her Pottery Barn Kids stuff. Gorgeous pastel colours and designs on quilts, beddings etc.
More pics in my website. A whimsical pic to end today’s posting.
Ahead of myself…
I’m going to be so busy these couple of weeks and I AM SO HAPPY about it. I’ve got a list of kids to photograph. I do hope I won’t run out of kids after this first list.
Today & yesterday, I photographed two newborn babies. A boy who is a month old and today, a girl of 8 days. Both didn’t want to sleep at all during their sessions. I am rescheduling a new session for the girl. I will post some favourites here after I’m done post processing.
What I am excited about today is there’s a new chick camera bags store. Well, they are sold in most camera stores in the US and online. I’ve never heard of them and their website just went live today. The bags are to die for. The designs are by Jill-E. All the bags on on back-ordered so I’m not even sure if I can get one if I wanted to.

Playing again…
How was everyone’s Father’s Day celebration yesterday? Mine was tiring.
I’m just waiting for better weather here in Vancouver to do my shoots. Summer is this week and it feels like late autumn!! Today is particularly chilly.
Still playing with the RAW actions I bought. Can’t decide on which I like more.
Comparison and decision making again. Just found a clip on YouTube of George Michael singing “A long and Winding Road” one of my favourite Beatles song. Kinda cool. This weather is depressing me to bits!
Many times I’ve been alone
And many times I’ve cried
Any way you’ll never know
The many ways I’ve tried
The Beatles’ version.

Thanks Heather!
Heather is the mom of KL & J. She referred me to J&A and now is helping me get more moms to sign up to let me photograph their kids at her Facebook. Thanks again, Heather. You are so cool.
It’s strange..
when you caught your husband reading your blog. Hmmm…. And he laughed reading your postings. Double hmmm…..
I have some kids lined up for photography and I haven’t scheduled them yet because most of them want to do the sessions on weekends. I had two kids for yesterday but the weather in the morning sucked so I had to reschedule. It’s June and the weekend weather here was just terrible but now, whoa, blue skies & sunshine and I have no kids to photograph.
I’ve finished J&A pictures and here are some I like from the second batch.

What was it I was saying?
Just look and not touch and buy? Uh oh. I bought a notebook bag! And no, I didn’t go to Kube Computers. I went to Office Depot. The latest flyer has them selling Targus bags for 30% off and I saw this shocking pink one. Just have to have a look. It has a compartment on the back for pens, papers etc. Not bad for $39.99. Here’s the one I bought. I know. It’s SHOCKING pink but I love the cheerfulness of it. It’s better than lime green and brown, believe me.

How can this guy be so hot?
Whoa! Should I be raving about a guy here? After all, it’s supposed to be parents friendly, LOL. But hey, we have eyes. We can still look. I am watching this korean drama called “Air City” which is currently being aired in Korea. It’s the korean version of “LAX” – remember the show which has Heather Locklear running LAX? Except that “Air City” has National Intellingence Agency involved in their operations as well. Before this show, I have never heard of Lee Jeong-jae. He plays a 230 – code for the korean NIA agents. I got to know that he usually acts in movies and for a long time now. I thoroughly love “Air City”. For a korean drama it’s totally different – no one is dying of cancer, no piggy back rides, great storyline so far but of course, they threw it the usual cliches: lover from the past, constipating in the loo (no joke! LOL!) and throwing up in the streets after a hard night of soju drinking.
But on to Mr Lee. The last pic is fab.

Bummer!!
I was hoping to get the “flyers” on my free photography sessions posted at the libraries and community centres. I just found out that they don’t allow commercial business advertising even though I’m not charging a cent. Grrrr!! I’m really at my wits on trying to get the word around on my site. I can’t spend any money on real advertising yet.
Today I was at Brentwood Mall and saw so many parents with their kids. Inside I was thinking, “Oh just let me photograph your kids.” I’ve given out cards to several moms at McDonald’s and elsewhere but I haven’t gotten any queries. All the kids that I have photographed so far, I went up to their moms and asked. I’m really thankful to each of them who had said yes. Do you find it patronizing if someone approach you with a card? I usually just say have a look at the pictures in my website and if you like my style, contact me. Is that considered patronizing? You know, in most photographers’ blogs, no one will write about the diificulties they are running into. Maybe I shouldn’t mention this in here but I’m writing about it.
I’m still post-processing the last batch of pics of J & A. My right arm is hurting because I’ve been moving my mouse with my arm in a particular position for too long. I really want to finish them by this week and send the CD off to their mom. Wish me luck.
Got myself a tattoo!
Today’s was my son’s school sports day and I volunteered at the concession in the morning. I grilled hot dogs and that got me hungry at 10:30am! School was dismissed at noon. My son was in the red team and they were second I think. The Blue team won which is great because I was always in the blue team in school.
We went to the newly opened McD at Market Crossing at Marine Way. I like going there now as it’s cleaner. Today was their official opening weekend though they opened a couple of weeks ago. The Beat station Mobile DJ was there. They have so much money just hiring 5-6 young persons playing music and dancing on the sidewalk. Nice job, don’t you think?
McD had someone to give free spray tattoo so I went for it. I don’t think I’ll be brave enough to actually go for a real tattoo. I chose my maiden last name which also means direction. It has several meanings. It’s a very common last name. Anyway, I love it. Hope it stays on for a week at least.
I talked to a mother at the school into me photographing her kids. She asked me how much am I charging and I said it’s free because I want more portfolio. And she said, “How are you going to make money out of this?” The first mom to actually ask this when I said it’s free. Thanks Brigit! [grin] I’ll see you and your kids soon.
Bags! Bags! And more bags!
I love shoes and bags though since having kids, I don’t have the luxury of buying new ones every season anymore. The Gap sling bag I take around with me works great but it’s showing its age. Some holes here & there. But I love more now is laptop bags. Love, Love them. I see so many innovative designs and showcases, it’s just incredible. The prices are also INCREDIBLY expensive!! Ok, ok… I bought a Billingham Pro Hadley from eBay for $170 but part of that amount came from my longtime internet friend in UK for my birthday. Unfortunately, my 15.4″ notebook doesn’t fit into the notebook compartment of the Billingham. I try to reason if I NEED a notebook bag. At times I do, most times I don’t! So, I’ll just browse these lovely bags and sigh at each of them. Check out Kube Computers . I checked their site and they have some very good varities. I really must go visit the store. God knows what I will end out coming out with. LOL! Some that caught my eye:
Melissa Beth’s Slim Tote

Oxio’s Retrostripper

Mixx’s Orchiding Me BizSleeve

There are some other good looking products in Mixx.
There’s another online retailar which lets you design your own notebook sleeve but I can’t remember the name. I will update this posting if I do.
Happiness is…
the simplest thing like being an aunt for the first time. LOL!! Yay, my brother Alex and his wife, Yvonne in Malaysia just had their first born last night. 3:55pm M’sian time. It’s a boy whom they have named Tristan. Can’t wait to see his pictures.

The wedding season
It’s kinda strange not photographing weddings this year. I have a friend whom I knew on Pbase who quited his software job and is doing weddings full time this year. He asked me to help him out but I want to concerntrate on kids photography. His website is at James Church Photography. James is located in North Vancouver. He doesn’t know I’m plugging for him. Check out his pics.
For nostalgia sake, here are some of favourite wedding pics I shot.
Above pics: The simpliest and most fun wedding, right on Spanish Banks!
Below: At Iona Beach at sunset. Lots of mosquitoes!!
Below: Shot at E&O Hotel in Penang, Malaysia. I just like it.
Below: At some B&B nearby the Langley Golf club. One of my personal favourites.
Who knows? I might photograph weddings again – if it’s only 3-5 hours and on the beach!
Back to the post-processing salt mine. LOL!
Spoke too soon…?
of the weather. It’s now 11am on Monday and it’s back to dark, cloudy & cool. I saw lightning last night so it must be pretty busy up there. It’s nice to have this actually. It got a bit too hot all of the sudden.
Yesterday morning, I was at Deer Lake for a photo session with two sisters. They came all the way from east Maple Ridge to Burnaby for this. They are J & KL’s cousins. I’ve just started post-processing some of the pics and here are two to put up here. The older sis, J, is a fantastic natural poser. She warmed up to me real quick. A who is 16 months old, was shy at first but she did good near the end of the session. I bet their mom wants to see a quick review. More coming as I processed them.
